Looking back

Language arts

  • Learned about the suffixes -er and -est (high, higher, highest)

  • Talked about the doubling rule when using those suffixes (if a word has one vowel and one consonant you double the consonant (big, bigger, biggest)

  • Finished our Jack and the Beanstalk story and broke down the story into ‘somebody; wanted; but; so; then; finally’ to summarize the story 

  • Talked about accepting consequences and did some writing to explain our understanding

Math

  • Talked about attributes of 3D shapes

  • Talked about transformations - slides, flips and turns and did some fun activities to practice these concepts


Science

  • Finished up our lifecycles projects

  • Talked about plant and animal offspring and played a matching game

  • Had some good discussions about positive and negative impacts humans can have on plants and animals

May 18                                     Victoria Day - NO SCHOOL

Just a reminder that if the weather is nice we may head out for a community walk this week. Please ensure your child is prepared with proper footwear and a water bottle.

Stay warm this weekend!

  Dec. 12, 2025 Looking back Language arts Talked about open and closed syllables Practiced compound words Imagined that we had a pet reindeer and made a list of things that it has and what it can do. We drew a picture of our reindeer and began writing a story.  Math Odd and even numbers Equality and inequality - used scales to practice this concept Greater than and less than - did a write the room activity to practice Social Studies Talked about heritage and had a great discussion about the different cultures in our classroom! Began our conversation about the indigenous people. We talked about all the things they get from the land. See if your child remembers where the name “Canada” comes from! Welcome Back

 Welcome back to another school year! My name is Lindsey Janisse and I will be your child's teacher this year. I am very excited to have moved up from Grade 1 last year. I know we will have a wonderful year ahead.  Looking back This week we focused on many classroom building activities: - Our Class is a Family - we wrote ways that we will contribute to our classroom family - First Day Jitters - we did a graphing activity telling how we felt on the first day of school - Journal writing - we wrote an "all about me" page telling a bit about ourselves Math: - We began a conversation about patterns and did a pattern hunt and exploration with various materials.                               .             We also got to meet our buddies this week and are making All About Me posters about each other!
