Hatching eggs!

Spring is in the air as we watch our chick eggs in the incubator and the adorable eaglets from the eagle cam in Big Bear Valley. We are so excited to see if we get some baby chicks (pip watch starts April 27)

Looking back

Language Arts

  • Practiced ea (sounds like short e - like ‘head’) and a (sounds like short o - like ‘water’)

  • Planned and wrote a personal narrative about making our paper airplanes. We will try another one next week!

Math

  • Continued with addition and subtraction with regrouping

    • We learned the base ten model and the standard algorithm (the way we learned as kids!)

Science

  • Talked about UNESCO world heritage sites in Alberta

  • Talked about different bodies of water and how water flows

Practiced adding more detail to our written sentences. Looked at some non fiction writing and began to explore gathering information Math Talked a lot about place value into the thousands Social Studies Had an introduction to cardinal directions and did some fun activities to practice (NESW) - ask your child what fun saying they came up with to remember!   Dec. 12, 2025 Looking back Language arts Talked about open and closed syllables Practiced compound words Imagined that we had a pet reindeer and made a list of things that it has and what it can do. We drew a picture of our reindeer and began writing a story.  Math Odd and even numbers Equality and inequality - used scales to practice this concept Greater than and less than - did a write the room activity to practice Social Studies Talked about heritage and had a great discussion about the different cultures in our classroom! Began our conversation about the indigenous people. We talked about all the things they get from the land. See if your child remembers where the name “Canada” comes from! Welcome Back

 Welcome back to another school year! My name is Lindsey Janisse and I will be your child's teacher this year. I am very excited to have moved up from Grade 1 last year. I know we will have a wonderful year ahead.  Looking back This week we focused on many classroom building activities: - Our Class is a Family - we wrote ways that we will contribute to our classroom family - First Day Jitters - we did a graphing activity telling how we felt on the first day of school - Journal writing - we wrote an "all about me" page telling a bit about ourselves Math: - We began a conversation about patterns and did a pattern hunt and exploration with various materials.                               .             We also got to meet our buddies this week and are making All About Me posters about each other!
