Saying goodbye to February!

Language Arts

  • Talked about long ‘o’ vowel teams - oa, oe, ow (when it makes /o/)

  • Revisited nouns, adjectives and verbs and wrote some sentences using adjectives to make them more interesting

  • Read some stories about kindness and did a writing piece to go along with pink shirt day

  • The words for next week are set, put, end, does, another, well, large, must, big, even

Math

  • Continued with fractions

    • Comparing fractions and deciding which fraction was bigger and which was smaller

    • Breaking up fractions and piecing them back together to make a whole

Social Studies

  • Talked about what we would see at our Sam Centre field trip next week. 

    • Watched some videos about the history of the Calgary stampede

    • Brainstormed some things we might see at the stampede

Other fun things!

  • Made plasticine animal scenes to go with our animal research

  • Did a really fun typing program on the computer to strengthen our typing skills

Practiced adding more detail to our written sentences. Looked at some non fiction writing and began to explore gathering information Math Talked a lot about place value into the thousands Social Studies Had an introduction to cardinal directions and did some fun activities to practice (NESW) - ask your child what fun saying they came up with to remember! Stay warm this weekend!

  Dec. 12, 2025 Looking back Language arts Talked about open and closed syllables Practiced compound words Imagined that we had a pet reindeer and made a list of things that it has and what it can do. We drew a picture of our reindeer and began writing a story.  Math Odd and even numbers Equality and inequality - used scales to practice this concept Greater than and less than - did a write the room activity to practice Social Studies Talked about heritage and had a great discussion about the different cultures in our classroom! Began our conversation about the indigenous people. We talked about all the things they get from the land. See if your child remembers where the name “Canada” comes from!
