Welcome Fall!

  Sept 26, 2025 Looking back Language Arts Reviewed digraphs th, sh, ch, ck Practiced writing different types of sentences (statements, exclamatory, questions) and used our editing checklist Had our very first spelling test! Math Finished our pattern unit with a fun hundreds chart activity Showed all the things that we learned about  patterns in a math test Science Learned that certain materials are used for different purposes Had a science test to show the things we learned about materials Other fun things! Talked about the autumn equinox on Monday and worked on some fall art Had an amazing 3 Left Feet Dance performance! Talked about the meaning of Orange Shirt Day and did a page in our visual journals about how we should feel at school Looking ahead Words for the week: he, was, for, on, are, as, with, his, they, I MONDAY                     Non-Instructional Day - NO SCHOOL TUESDAY             ...

  Sept 19, 2025 Looking back Language Arts Focused on the ‘floss’ rule (when flsz comes at the end of a word after a short vowel you double the letter) and the -oll/-ull/-all sounds. Talked about the sight words, your, want, no, go, so  Learned about how to read back our sentences to make sure they have everything they need Talked about pronouns and how to use them to connect 2 sentences Math Talked about increasing and decreasing patterns Learned about patterns on a hundreds chart Science Continued our talk about materials and how indigenous people use natural materials to make tipis. We created our own tipis in our visual journals and labelled each material. Talked about a sharing circle and how indigenous people use a sharing stick to take turns. We created a class sharing stick using natural and produced materials to use for future sharing circles Sorted pictures cut out of magazines into natural and processed materials Other fun things! ...

  Looking back Langauge Arts Focused on reviewing short vowel sounds  Learned that every sentence has a subject and predicate (something about the subject). We practiced writing our own sentences complete with a capital letter at the beginning and a period at the end. Talked about the word “courage” and how Terry Fox had courage to run a marathon a day. We drew a picture and wrote about a time that we had courage Math Continued our talk and practice about repeating patterns with more than one attribute Science  Talked about different types of materials and discovered different materials around the classroom Made our own creations using a variety of materials (wood, metal, plastic, playdough) Talked about properties of materials (length, weight, transparency, reflection, malleability, absorbancy) Explored centres that related to each property that we learned about  We also finished up our self portraits and made a class promise about how we are going to treat each oth...

Welcome Back

 Welcome back to another school year! My name is Lindsey Janisse and I will be your child's teacher this year. I am very excited to have moved up from Grade 1 last year. I know we will have a wonderful year ahead.  Looking back This week we focused on many classroom building activities: - Our Class is a Family - we wrote ways that we will contribute to our classroom family - First Day Jitters - we did a graphing activity telling how we felt on the first day of school - Journal writing - we wrote an "all about me" page telling a bit about ourselves Math: - We began a conversation about patterns and did a pattern hunt and exploration with various materials.                               .             We also got to meet our buddies this week and are making All About Me posters about each other!
