Happy Holidays!

 Wow what a fun and busy week we had in Grade 2! Between carolling, PJ day and our classroom Grinch Day we had so much fun leading up to our winter break. We still managed to finish our math unit on quantity to 1000, talked about Metis people in social studies (and made bannock!) and did some fun holiday writing.  I hope you have a wonderful holiday season and we will see you back on January 5th!

  Dec. 12, 2025 Looking back Language arts Talked about open and closed syllables Practiced compound words Imagined that we had a pet reindeer and made a list of things that it has and what it can do. We drew a picture of our reindeer and began writing a story.  Math Odd and even numbers Equality and inequality - used scales to practice this concept Greater than and less than - did a write the room activity to practice Social Studies Talked about heritage and had a great discussion about the different cultures in our classroom! Began our conversation about the indigenous people. We talked about all the things they get from the land. See if your child remembers where the name “Canada” comes from!                                                  Dec 5, 2025 Looking back Language arts Talked about the endings -ed and -ing  -ed can make 3 sounds depending on how the word ends Both word endings are added to verbs (action words Compared opinion and factual writing Wrote some facts about reindeer Math Talked about skip counting by higher numbers (20s, 25s, 50s) Practiced skip counting from anywhere up to 1000 Named the canadian coins and bills Did various activities to practice counting coins including slides in our Google classroom  Social Studies Finished our talk about the regions of Canada Talked about the various natural resources Canada has Began our conversation about culture and heritage We had a lot of fun sharing about our different languages and practiced writing hello in various languages!   Nov 7, 2015 Looking back Language arts Continued to practice words that end with ‘bossy e’. Your child brought home a roll and read game to play as well as the decodable passage we did this week. Practiced adding more detail to our written sentences. Looked at some non fiction writing and began to explore gathering information Math Talked a lot about place value into the thousands Social Studies Had an introduction to cardinal directions and did some fun activities to practice (NESW) - ask your child what fun saying they came up with to remember! Looked at and discussed a map of Canada and a map of Alberta Looking Ahead Please make sure yellow folders are returned daily so I am able to read your child’s book with them! Oct. 31, 2025 Happy Halloween! It is great to be back and see the kids again! It was a long 3.5 weeks for sure. We are trying to jump right back in where we left off! Looking back Language arts  Reviewed the “bossy e” rule (we will continue this next week Did some fun creative writing about a haunted house that we drew Math Continued our talk about quantity and counted various objects from our classroom Did a fun skeleton place value write the room game   Social Studies Began our unit on Time and Place. We talked about relative directions and used words like near, far, on top of, below, beside, etc..  Looking ahead Please return all library books to exchange on Tuesday! Short but busy week!

  Oct. 3, 2025 Hi parents! Just wanted to take a quick second to let you know much we appreciate all the support we have received over the last few weeks. I was feeling pretty emotional this morning not knowing when we will be back to school. I feel like we were just getting into the groove of things! Hopefully we will be back sooner than later. Please know I will not have access to email while we are out. Take care and hope to see you all soon. Looking back Language Arts Reviewed digraphs ph, wh, nk, ng Did a sharing circle and some writing about our long weekend Practiced writing sentences to answer a question Math Began exploring quantities to 1000.  We walked around the school to count the number of doors in our school. It was tricky! Social Studies Had a great discussion about where our families our from and looked at those places on a map.   Sept 26, 2025 Looking back Language Arts Reviewed digraphs th, sh, ch, ck Practiced writing different types of sentences (statements, exclamatory, questions) and used our editing checklist Had our very first spelling test! Math Finished our pattern unit with a fun hundreds chart activity Showed all the things that we learned about  patterns in a math test Science Learned that certain materials are used for different purposes Had a science test to show the things we learned about materials Other fun things! Talked about the autumn equinox on Monday and worked on some fall art Had an amazing 3 Left Feet Dance performance!
