  March 19, 2026 Unfortunately our leprechaun traps were unsuccessful! That sneaky leprechaun did sneak and steal our gold . He also played some tricks on us with our shoes!                   Language Arts Talked about the sounds of ‘oo’ Made a plan to trap a leprechaun and did some writing about “How to Catch a Leprechaun” Put our ideas from our brain web about why school is amazing into a paragraph making sure we had a topic sentence, details with adjectives and adverbs, and a closing sentence Math Continued to explore strategies to make adding and subtracting larger numbers easier. For adding we made 10 and went up by the next multiple of 10. For subtraction we took away the ones to get down to 10 and subtracted the rest  .   Social Studies Had a great discussion about how the Prime Minister makes decisions that affect all of us Talked about voting and had a thorough mock election about what we should do on our last day...

  March 13, 2026 Language Arts Reviewed all of the vowel teams we have learned over the past few weeks  Continued to talk about verbs and adverbs and practiced writing some sentences to make a story Learned about the parts of a paragraph and began planning and writing our own paragraphs Math Reviewed some math strategies to get us ready to start 2 digit addition and subtraction Talked about decomposing 100 into groups of tens Learned about the associative property Social Studies Talked about the 3 levels of government (federal, provincial and local) including what items they are responsible for and who is the leader of each level Discussed the importance of voting  Looking ahead During Parent-Teacher Conferences on Thursday, March 19 and Friday, March 20 , we invite families to place a colourful push pin on our world map located in our Learning Commons to show where their family comes from.   Feb 27, 2026 Language Arts Talked about long ‘o’ vowel teams - oa, oe, ow (when it makes /o/) Revisited nouns, adjectives and verbs and wrote some sentences using adjectives to make them more interesting Read some stories about kindness and did a writing piece to go along with pink shirt day The words for next week are set, put, end, does, another, well, large, must, big, even Math Continued with fractions Comparing fractions and deciding which fraction was bigger and which was smaller Breaking up fractions and piecing them back together to make a whole                                                             Social Studies Talked about what we would see at our Sam Centre field trip next week.  Watched some videos about the history of the Calgary stampede Brainstormed some things we might see at...

  Feb 20, 2026 Language Arts Talked about long ‘e’ vowel teams - ea, ey, ee Next week weekly words will be: boy, follow, came, want, show, also, around, form, three, small Did some writing about the olympics and our weekends Compared and contrasted 2 stories (The Mitten and Deep in the Woods) using a Venn diagram  Math Continued to talk about different math strategies that can make it easier to quickly add numbers Started talking about fractions and how to take something whole and make it into equal parts Other fun things!   Feb 6, 2026 Happy February and yay Olympic time! I’m looking forward to bringing my love for the Olympics into the classroom for the next couple of weeks! Language arts Reviewed /er/ using ‘ir’ ‘ur’ ‘er’ and ‘wor’ Finished our animal research web and put our notes into complete sentences Math Talked about math strategies - doubles, near doubles and friendly 10s and how these addition strategies also help us subtract (a sheet was sent home to practice!) Science Continued our talk about energy by exploring light and shadows - Monday we made paper groundhogs and took them outside to do some shadow play Talked about the words transparent, translucent and opaque. Does your child  remember what these words mean? Looking ahead Valentine’s Day We will be exchanging valentines if your child chooses to bring some in on Wednesday February 11 in the morning. Happy to be back!

  January 30, 2026 Wow what a January it has been. I was off for 3 weeks taking care of my son as he landed himself in the hospital for 13 days. I’ve never been so excited to get back to work! The kids were in good hands with the substitute teachers they had and the transition was smooth getting back into the swing of things. Fingers crossed for healthier days ahead!
