Happy Holidays!

 Wow what a fun and busy week we had in Grade 2! Between carolling, PJ day and our classroom Grinch Day we had so much fun leading up to our winter break. We still managed to finish our math unit on quantity to 1000, talked about Metis people in social studies (and made bannock!) and did some fun holiday writing.  I hope you have a wonderful holiday season and we will see you back on January 5th!

  Dec. 12, 2025 Looking back Language arts Talked about open and closed syllables Practiced compound words Imagined that we had a pet reindeer and made a list of things that it has and what it can do. We drew a picture of our reindeer and began writing a story.  Math Odd and even numbers Equality and inequality - used scales to practice this concept Greater than and less than - did a write the room activity to practice Social Studies Talked about heritage and had a great discussion about the different cultures in our classroom! Began our conversation about the indigenous people. We talked about all the things they get from the land. See if your child remembers where the name “Canada” comes from!                                                  Dec 5, 2025 Looking back Language arts Talked about the endings -ed and -ing  -ed can make 3 sounds depending on how the word ends Both word endings are added to verbs (action words Compared opinion and factual writing Wrote some facts about reindeer Math Talked about skip counting by higher numbers (20s, 25s, 50s) Practiced skip counting from anywhere up to 1000 Named the canadian coins and bills Did various activities to practice counting coins including slides in our Google classroom  Social Studies Finished our talk about the regions of Canada Talked about the various natural resources Canada has Began our conversation about culture and heritage We had a lot of fun sharing about our different languages and practiced writing hello in various languages!
